Instructions on getting started using VCL

There is a Getting Started guide you can give to your students on how to use VCL.

Using VCL during a class session or workshop

If you plan to have a group of users use VCL at the same time such as during a class session or during a workshop, you should request a Block Allocation so that sufficient VCL resources will be prepared beforehand to handle the number of concurrent users. This is especially important when using resources that are in AVD.

Getting software added to VCL

If you need software made available through VCL that isn’t already there, you have a few options. If the software is Linux based, you can create your own on-prem image. If the software is Windows based, you’ll need to request that the software be added to AVD.  There have been a few cases where Windows software doesn’t work correctly in AVD and has to be installed in an on-prem image, but that requires some additional Microsoft licensing to be purchased for each student that will be accessing it.

Getting access granted to an image you created for your class

If you created your own image (or had someone do it for you) and need your class to be given access to make reservations for the image, you can email vcl_help@ncsu.edu for assistance in getting access granted. Please include the course(s) and section number(s) for students that will need access.
